Becoming a Mother

Becoming a Mother

Becoming a mother changed my life

I no longer have time for myself

I can’t seem to keep the house in order

I can’t afford the childcare I need in order to work

I can’t work enough to support us and take care of you

I spend my days cooking, cleaning up after cooking, changing endless diapers, feeling like a milk machine, and trying to get you to sleep

Becoming a mother changed my life

I lost the sense of loneliness I once felt

I wake up each day with inner joy to wake up to you

I smile every time I see you smile

My heart is warmed as I watch you sleep

I giggle as I watch you explore the world and your own sense of humor

Becoming a mother changed my life

My days are filled with new meaning

I have a greater purpose – to give you the best life

We laugh, we play, we walk and we talk

I tell you when it’s naptime, you tell me “Mama bed”

I retort, “No, baby bed”

You exclaim with passion, “Mama Bed!”

You often win

Becoming a mother changed my life

Now when I do yoga, you are often on my back

When I go to the bathroom, you want to see what I’m doing

When I cook, you want to learn how too

You help unload the dishwasher, whipping the silverware in the drawer

Sometimes you give me kisses and sometimes you tell me, “No!”

Always you fill my heart with love

Forever, I know YOU are the best part of my life
